Our Sports Director Ric’s Comeback
Holiday Week Dec. 22-Dec. 27
The holiday week was a challenge. Although I didn’t do too much physically due to being sick, it proved to be a time of reflection. There are challenges that I always face once I start a consistent workout regimen. I was able to attend an Adventure Fitness class on Tuesday and felt great. A grueling workout is always a good preparation for the holidays. On Wednesday I felt the first signs of a head cold and knew there was more to come and sure enough it did. I didn’t do any physical activities during the time of being sick, however I did realize this would be a turning point to my new found consistency. I really had a lot of time to think. Realizing that this was a cross-roads, I began preparing for the upcoming week. I thought about the adversity I faced after coming back and working out. In past situations this has been a situation where it killed my routine of going to the gym. I knew that this couldn’t happen again if I wanted to stay on path with my goals. I did however have questions for myself as to if I could still train while being sick. Overall, I did only train on one occasion which caused me to take a step back in my routine.
Back to the Grind Dec. 29- Jan 4
Given my adversity the previous week, I had some anxiety on beginning once again. I was no longer sick, however I did not know at what level I would be coming into a workout. I felt some lasting effects from being sick yet felt pretty good overall. On Tuesday I worked out with Adam from SWSI and was surprised how I was able to keep up. I was now feeling energized and really feeling a sense of athleticism, something I haven’t felt in some while. I was now not worried about how I was going to feel throughout the workout, instead I was concentrating on the overall movements and how I could improve. I was now feeling like I was taking a large step in the direction that I wanted to go. I trained three times this week with some intensity and really didn’t feel the effects of the previous week. I was feeling that this is the right time to start adding more ways of training. Since I am training for specific sports of Baseball and Golf, I’m feeling the shift to actually doing these activities. The shift in thinking is really carrying over to actually throwing a baseball, swinging a bat and swinging a golf club. I have now established a time frame to work towards and am focusing and visualizing a goal and the steps I will take to attain that goal.
